TODAY'S GOD'S WORD REFLECTION: PUTTING CHRIST ABOVE ALL THINGS

Sunday, June 28, 2026

Readings: 2 Kgs 4:8–11, 14–16a; Ps 89:2–3, 16–19; Rom 6:3–4, 8–11; Mt 10:37–42.

"Whoever does not take up his cross and follow me is not worthy of me." (Matthew 10:38)

Following Jesus is not simply a matter of believing in Him; it means making Him the highest priority in our lives. This is the central message of today's Gospel. Jesus is not asking us to love our families less. Rather, He calls us to love Him first, so that every other relationship is rooted in His love.

When Christ is at the center of our lives, we are able to love our spouse, children, parents, friends, and even those who hurt us with a more sincere and selfless love. But when our hearts are attached more to comfort, wealth, status, or human relationships than to Christ, our peace can easily be shaken when those things are lost or changed.

The first reading tells the story of the Shunammite woman, who warmly welcomed the prophet Elisha and served him with genuine generosity. God saw her faithful heart and blessed her far beyond her expectations. Likewise, Jesus teaches that even the smallest act of kindness, such as offering a cup of water in His name, will never go unnoticed or unrewarded by God.

Putting Christ first means being willing to carry our cross each day. That cross may be remaining honest when dishonesty seems easier, forgiving those who have hurt us, staying faithful through difficulties, and continuing to do good even when our efforts are unappreciated. The cross is never easy, but with Christ, it becomes the path to spiritual growth, true joy, and eternal life.

Today, let us ask ourselves: Is Jesus truly the first priority in my life? May every decision, every word, and every action reflect that Christ truly reigns in our hearts.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word today. Teach us to always place Your Son, Jesus Christ, above all else. Give us the strength to carry our cross each day with faith, love, and hope. May our lives become living witnesses of Your love to everyone we meet. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

May God bless us all. ❤️
