We Are Called to Be Shepherds with Love, Humility, and Example

Reflection on God's Word Today:

We Are Called to Be Shepherds with Love, Humility, and Example

In today’s Gospel, Jesus asks His disciples, “Who do you say that I am?” (Matthew 16:15). This question calls for a personal response, not just what we hear from others. Peter boldly declares, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the Living God!” (Matthew 16:16). Because of his faith, Jesus establishes Peter as the rock upon which He will build His Church, entrusting him with the keys to the Kingdom of Heaven.

In the first reading, Peter, now a leader of the Church, exhorts other leaders to shepherd God’s people willingly, with love, and by setting an example (1 Peter 5:1-4). True leadership in the Church is not about power but about service with humility.

Psalm 23 reminds us that the Lord is our Good Shepherd, always guiding, protecting, and providing for us. Just as He shepherds us with love, we too are called to shepherd others in our families, communities, and workplaces with compassion and selflessness.

Reflection Questions:

  • Have I truly recognized Jesus as the Messiah in my life, as Peter did?
  • How can I be a shepherd to those around me with love and humility?
  • Do I fully trust in the Lord, my Good Shepherd, to guide my life?

Short Prayer:

Lord Jesus, You are the Good Shepherd who always leads and protects us. Teach us to know You more deeply and to serve others with love and humility. May we become shepherds who guide and care for others, just as You always care for us. Amen.

God bless  all of us 🙏❤️,
