Readings: Jeremiah 30:1–2, 12–15, 18–22 • Psalm 102:16–18, 19–21, 29, 22–23 • Matthew 15:1–2, 10–14

In today's Gospel, the Pharisees criticized Jesus' disciples for not following the traditional ritual of washing their hands before eating. Jesus responded by teaching that what truly matters is not outward rituals but the purity of the heart. God looks beyond our external actions and sees what is within us.

At times, we may think we are good Christians because we attend church regularly, serve in ministry, or faithfully practice religious traditions. While these are important, God desires something deeper—a heart that genuinely loves Him and loves others. True worship transforms our lives, producing humility, honesty, forgiveness, compassion, and love.

In the first reading, God promises to restore His wounded people. Although they have suffered because of their sins, His mercy is greater than their failures. He not only heals their wounds but also rebuilds their lives and renews their relationship with Him.

Today, the Church also honors Saint John Mary Vianney, the patron saint of parish priests. His holiness did not come from outward appearances but from his deep intimacy with God, his humility, and his tireless dedication to serving God's people. His life reminds us that genuine holiness always begins with a transformed heart.

Let us ask ourselves today: Is my faith merely a routine, or is it truly changing my heart to become more like Christ?

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, purify my heart from pride, hypocrisy, and sin. Help me not only to worship You with my lips but also to honor You through my thoughts, words, and actions each day. Make my life a reflection of Your love and holiness. Amen.
