Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Readings: Micah 5:1–4a • Psalm 13:6ab, 6c • Matthew 1:1–16, 18–23
Today the Church celebrates the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Through Mary, we see how God works through human history and fulfills His plan of salvation.
In the first reading, the Prophet Micah foretells that from Bethlehem will come a ruler who will shepherd His people and bring peace. This prophecy is fulfilled in Jesus Christ.
The Gospel presents the genealogy of Jesus and the story of Mary conceiving by the Holy Spirit. The genealogy reminds us that God’s plan unfolds through many generations, through imperfect people, and through a long journey that is not always easy to understand.
Mary became a very important part of that plan. She did not know every detail of the path ahead, but she surrendered herself to the will of God.
Here we learn that God does not always ask us to understand His entire plan; He asks us to trust Him and faithfully do our part.
Sometimes we wonder why certain things happen, why our plans change, or why life does not unfold as we expected. But God sees much farther than we can see.
Today, let us learn from Mary: to trust, to remain humble, and to be ready to be used by God.
Our part may seem small, but when it is lived in obedience, God can make it part of something far greater.
Prayer: Lord, thank You for the example of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Teach me to trust Your plan, to be faithful in every responsibility, and to courageously say yes to Your will. Use my life as part of Your work and make me a blessing to others. Amen.
